Pool Lighting

You think pool lighting is a luxury? Not anymore. Pool lighting is now considered a necessity especially with the advent of several pool-heating systems that set pool water at viable temperatures for evening swimming to be as pleasurable as it is during the day.

Indeed, pool lights were once deemed as a luxurious option for swimming pools, but they are now adopted as among the safety mechanisms in swimming pools especially in the evening on top of the aesthetics side of it. Pool lighting installation can go in time with the pool's construction or added to an existing above ground aquatic facility.

The diverse uses of pools nowadays and the fact that they operational even in shared environments – getting pool lighting right is one of the biggest challenges of pool constructors and interior designers. With this in mind, pool lighting must be given thorough consideration with respect to its intended uses and to avoid the glaring errors of the past.

Indoor swimming pools are somewhat the easiest to design. You can save on swimming pool lighting by maximizing natural lighting, which has recently become a popular option (and an attractive one at that) for aquatic facilities indoors.

Large windows directly overhead or using open fenestration are energy efficient alternatives not only to supplement lighting but heat as well. Additionally, natural lighting adds interest to the pool and provides an important connection to the outside environment for employees assigned within the facility. If you opt to use natural pool lighting, prefer skylights overhead source's angle of reflection is usually too high to be a problem.

The power of artificial lights such as LED pool lights, incandescent, fluorescent, or halogen can pose a problem if positioned improperly. One of the biggest concerns is the shadow they create when placed at extreme angles, not to mention that they can be glaring at the sides. So the preferred positioning of artificial lighting, then, is overhead – this allows light to penetrate straight down to the bottom and create fewer shadows.

The water decreases the intensity of illumination at the depths, which may cause the bottom and corners to appear darker if lights are placed on the sides. Moreover, at extreme angles, water tends to reflect some of the light minimizing its illuminating strength and decreasing light energy efficiency.

Underwater pool lighting is very efficient in facilities that are frequently used even at night. They provide drama to the pool as well as brighten the deep areas. In residential pools where waters are shallower, the purpose of underwater pool lighting becomes evidently for the creation of mood.

A solar pool light is a state-of-the-art type of lighting an aquatic facility. The rainbow colors produced by floating solar pool light creates a dramatic effect especially at night. Floating solar pool light floats all day on the water surface storing solar energy in the rechargeable batteries and emits a rainbow of colors at night. These lights serve their purpose best during lounge evening parties by the pool.

Solar pool lights also are sometimes attached to a long post and appear like torches that you can easily install in the ground. Lights that utilize solar power are very energy efficient and often begin to operate automatically at dusk for up to 12 hours.

Pool deck lights, meanwhile, serve as safety equipment for above ground swimming pools, while adding interest to the entire preparation. Pool deck lighting is a crucial aspect for above ground pools when night swimming is part of the agenda. Not only do they illuminate the deck of pools but also provide lighting for the entire landscape.

While it is true that swimming pools can exist without lighting, but its existence can be as bland as a dish without salt and pepper.
